Dec. 11, 2023, Whatawhata to Kaniwhaniwha campground, 24 km (km 825,6), 6,5 hrs
In the morning, we take the bus to Whatawhata since we walked that stretch already. The village café is open, and I have a cheese scone before leaving at 9:20.
First, there is some paved road that later turns into a gravel road. At some point, there is a trail through farmland with sheep before we are led back onto a road and then a small and very nice trail through rainforest before the very spacious campsite comes into sight.
"The flog" is there. I met the German woman that is part of "the flog" just in the last 45 minutes of the walk and caught up with her about the "news
I set the tent up and very much enjoy a bath in the river close by eventhough it is ice-cold.
