Feb. 1, 2024, Waiau hut to Anne hut, 26,3 km, km 1879,17, 7,5 hrs
The walk today is not too difficult: 26 km through forests and grasslands, with river crossings, of course. The weather is good, the sun is burning and I feel tired. I wanted to eat two dinners last night because it gives me more energy the next day, however because of the countless sandflies, I managed to cook only one. I also have a lot of back pain, so I'm not feeling well today. X disappears quickly into the distance but waits here and there for me, although those are long waits for him.
I am so tired and fighting with the back pain that I even need a break about 1 km before Anne Hut. Anne Hut is nice and spacious, and since I don't feel I can walk much further, we decide to stay and sleep in the hut tonight, thinking that there won't be many people. The weather forecast for tomorrow is bad, but we want to try to get to Boyle and out of this section before 3 pm.
Boyle consists of nothing much more than a campsite where we sent resupply boxes to. They are only open until 3. We want to get our boxes and hopefully a cabin for the night. I am not sure right now if I can make it to Boyle. It's about 30 km, and I just feel so tired. I will see tomorrow.
