Jan. 05, 2024, Palmerston North to Moturimu Whare campsite, 23 km, km 1434,6, 7 hrs 37 min
We are on our way to the Tararua Mountains.
First, we take the bus out of town to the point where we stopped walking the day before yesterday.
The first part is walking on paved roads, then a gravel road. This turns into a forest road, and then we are walking on mountain bike tracks.
After 23 km, we reach a small campsite with a toilet and a little shelter. We pitch our tents along the side of the shelter. (I forgot to take a picture of the shelter with the tents.)
Quite a few people show up. As I mentioned before, many people hitch the parts that we walk, usually all the road walks. On those stretches, we hardly see anyone. But as soon as there is some real nature walk, suddenly people seem to emerge out of nowhere.
