Te Araroa, Day 64

Jan. 07, 2024, Tokumaru Shelter Campsite to Levin, Totara Lodge, 29,2 km, km 1479,7, 8 hrs

This morning, the tent is completely wet again.
Of course.
It is just 6 degrees Celsius in the morning.

Morning view down the mountains. We are walking down towards that plain in the right corner of the picture:

I walk down the gravel road out of the mountains with a brisk walk, but until it turns to a paved road after 8 km, I am still cold. I am glad the sun can reach me now. We have a break in the sun to dry our tents, and I am slowly warming up.

Walking towards Shannon:

Shannon old post office building:

Just along the sidewalk in Shannon:

In Shannon we find a small supermarket. The supermarket provides "Monster", to "monsterize" for the 16 km road walk ahead, along the highway.

Highway walk:

By the end of the day, when reaching the Motel in Levin, my feet are not happy and quite painful. They just don't like walking on paved roads. Still, I am glad we chose this route.
