Dec. 21, 2023, 20 km (km 1112,6) Mangatepopo carpark to Tongariri Shuttle carpark, 6 hrs 45 min
This morning, we take the shuttle to the southern end of the Tongariro Crossing and walk to the northern end.
Since we are coming back to National Park, my backpack is almost empty. What a treat!
The Tongariro Crossing is walking through a volcano landscape. It is very, very beautiful, and I enjoy it a lot.
There is one volcano that I climbed when I was there before (Mt Ngauruhoe). I learn that this is not possible anymore.
Different too is the number of people. In the nineties, that place was empty. Now it is very famous, and there are many people doing the crossing. Still, it is worth it.
Mt. Ngauruhoe is the Mountain with some red Antje crater...:
