Te Araroa, Day 48

The next two days are all about logistics. Today, we take the only bus going to Taumarunui, scheduled for the early afternoon. Back at the Forgotten World Motel, we plan the walk in the Tararua Mountains—an intricate and challenging mountain range that requires good weather for safe navigation.

One must be prepared to spend 6-9 days in that range and carry sufficient food. Although we haven't reached that point yet, planning is essential, including an exit strategy in case of bad weather. Additionally, we're searching for accommodations along the way and making bookings. I also send a few little things that I did not really use to my colleague in Auckland to keep for me. It is only just over 200g but I am happy about every gram less on my back.
