Dec. 23,2023, Zero Day, Taumarunui to Taumanurui Canoes
Another zero day was not planned but before our canoe trip on the Whanganui River on the 26th, we have to have safety instructions. These are scheduled for tomorrow morning at 6:45 am at the canoe rental place.
We check out of the Forgotten World Motel in the morning and wait until 3:30 pm for the shuttle to the canoe place. While waiting, I explore the town and discover a small exhibition of air-filled Christmas decorations collected by a local lady.
At the canoe place, we complete the paperwork and stay overnight to attend the safety instructions there. They provide ample space for tents, an outdoor shower, and a basic toilet. We learn about a tiny shed with a bunk bed and opt for that, avoiding the hassle of packing a wet tent in the morning.
