Te Araroa, Day 72

Jan. 15, 2024, Picton - Ship cove to Camp Bay (Queen Charlotte Track), 27,7 km, km 1635,62, 6:27 hrs

This morning we take a boat to ship cove, the start of the Queen Charlotte Track which is approximatly 75 km long.

It is a cloudy day. We don't get to see the sun but at least we won't have any rain today.

On the way to ship cove:

Ship cove:

Waiting for the other passengers to leave, we encounter the “Weka”: a comical type of bird always searching for something to eat. They need to be watched closely because they tend to grab anything with their beak, thinking it might be edible, and then run away with it.

Just before 10:00 am, I start walking. The track is well-maintained, and walking is easy. This is something we hardly usually experience.

Behinning of the track:

Some views along the way:

I didn't think I would experience it on this track, but even here there is a section of mud:

After 27,7 km and about 6,5 hrs,  I arrive at Camp Bay, the campsite for tonight. My camp spot isn't perfect but will do.
